Who are we?

Birmingham Press Club was formed in 1865 and is the oldest press club in the world.

Over the decades the club has had thousands of members including many prestigious personalities from the world of Midlands journalism.

You can read more about the history of the club in the About Us section.

Our Events

Nowadays the club has members across a wide range of media and business including newspapers, radio, television, public relations, marketing, accountancy, the legal profession and more. This represents a first-class pool of contacts and excellent opportunities for networking at our many events.

These events include monthly get-togethers (free drinks for members!), a series of debates on media matters and our famous Christmas Lunch, usually held at a Birmingham venue.

Our Awards

However, our biggest event is the annual Midlands Media Awards.

We attract entries from Lincolnshire in the east to Shropshire and Herefordshire in the west, Staffordshire in the north to Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire in the south and everywhere in between.

Categories include newspapers, radio, television and PR.

We also organise the annual Midlands Media Students Awards aimed at students taking media degrees and awards at Midlands universities and Further Education colleges. Many of our winners and Highly Commended students have secured their first jobs having come to prominence in these prestigious awards.
