Alex gets the Editor’s chair
Alex Ross, who won the News Reporter of the Year (Daily) accolade at the 2018 Press Club-organised Midlands Media Awards while working on the Express & Star, has been appointed editor of JPIMedia’s Bristol World website. In doing so he will be up against the Bristol Live website where he was content editor.
Bristol World’s launch follows other recent digital launches , including Birmingham, by JPIMedia.
Commenting on his new appointment, Alex (pictured) said that he would be leading a city-based team which aimed to become the first-point-of-call for people to get their latest local news.
“As well as championing all we have to offer, we also won’t be afraid to take on issues which we think need highlighting. That’s why we’ve launched with a campaign to tackle inequality, which has already had support from city MPs,” he said.
Alex began his career as a trainee reporter on the Gloucestershire Gazette in 2005, before moving to the Weston Mercury three years later. He spent a year with the Northamptonshire Telegraph between 2011 and 2012 and then joined the Midland News Association, where he held roles including news editor, group chief reporter and investigations editor.
Alex then became chief reporter at the Western Daily Press in 2019 before taking up the content editor role with its Bristol Live sister site.
He is joined on the Bristol World launch team by reporter Sophie Wills, who has previously worked on the the Derbyshire Times, Mansfield Chad and Worksop Guardian.
