AWARDS BACK ON THE MENU
The prestigious Midlands Media Awards, organised by Birmingham Press Club to acknowledge the achievements of the region’s journalists, broadcasters, photographers and media students are back on the agenda.
They are being re-introduced for the first time since 2019, having been forced into “hibernation” because of the Covid outbreak.
The Awards, which will include categories specifically for media students, will take place this year at the Birmingham city centre Macdonald Burlington Hotel on Friday, 14November.
Llewela Bailey (pictured), Press Club Chairman, said: “It has been a source of frustration to everyone that we haven’t been in a position until now to stage the Awards. However, we are delighted that planning is now going ahead.”
She added: “Although the media industry has changed dramatically since 2019, and is still facing huge challenges today, I believe it has a viable future.
“Print sales may have dropped alarmingly but the fact that huge audiences are now getting their fix of local news via online websites shows that the role of journalism is as important as ever.”
Details of the award categories, the deadline for entries and ticket prices will be announced later.
