Dr “Cheer” to Attend Awards Ceremony
An NHS doctor who won himself an army of online followers during the early days of the Covid pandemic by live-streaming – in his scrubs - as a DJ from the kitchen of his Birmingham home will be dispensing a little more cheer at the Midlands Media Students’ Awards.
The event, sponsored by Amazon Services UK Ltd and organised by Birmingham Press Club, is being held at Hockley Social Club on 8 November.
Now a “media doctor” on radio and television, Kishan Bodalia (pictured) will be presenting some of the awards together with BBC Newsbeat journalist Calum Leslie, who graduated with an MA in multimedia journalism from Glasgow Caledonian University, and Radio WM journalist Megan Jones. Previously chief reporter at Free Radio, Megan studied journalism at the University of Gloucestershire.
Ex-University of Birmingham student Kishan (pictured) qualified in 2019 and spent four years as an NHS doctor before launching his media career. During Covid, his morale-boosting sets earned him a legion of fans – and praise from then Health Secretary Matt Hancock for a “brilliant initiative.”
Co-hosting the awards ceremony will be ITV Central journalist Lewis Warner and BBC Asian Network presenter Amber Sandhu – both former students at universities in the Midlands.
