GEORGE IN DRIVING SEAT AS NETWORK RETURNS
The Young Journalists Network, supported by Birmingham Press Club, will be meeting again next month (September 2021) for the first time since the COVID-19 outbreak.
Members will get together at the Colmore Tap on Colmore Row on 16 September from 7pm.
The Network is open to young and aspiring journalists and media and communications professionals, providing its members with an important link with the region’s media industry, through its association with the Press Club.
ITV Central journalist George Hancorn (pictured), who has succeeded fellow TV journalist Lewis Warner as organiser, said: “We are very pleased that we are now able to kick-start events again following the easing of coronavirus restrictions.”
He said that the Network’s monthly/bi-monthly events – “all very casual” - offered the opportunity for like-minded people who were carving their careers in the media industry to meet together, to discuss where the sector was heading and how best to embrace new media.
George, who moved from the West Country to the Midlands five years ago, joined ITV Central in June of this year as a production journalist. Previously, he had spent three years at Local TV, enjoying roles as network content producer and reporter and senior entertainment producer and presenter. He has also worked for JPI Media titles, Simple Politics and local radio.
Press Club chairman Llewela Bailey commented: “Establishing links with media students and young journalists is a key factor in the continuing existence of the Press Club.”
