In the Editor’s Chair

News and events company, TheBusinessDesk.com, has appointed a new West Midlands editor, former University of Birmingham student Afroze Zaidi.

Afroze (pictured) is the company’s sixth new recruit of the year and follows on from its investment in the South West of England with the acquisition of West Business News.

Alex Turner, joint managing director of TheBusinessDesk.com, said: “Afroze will strengthen our editorial team and be a great addition to our West Midlands team. We are looking forward to her shaping our market-leading business coverage and reinforcing our presence in the region.”

“Birmingham has been my home for the last 18 years,” said Afroze, who has a background in project co-ordination, research and political journalism. “Its central location makes it a city that’s full of possibilities.

“Against this backdrop, I am beyond excited for the opportunity to be heading TheBusinessDesk.com’s West Midlands coverage on the issues that matter most to its audience, and becoming a part of the region’s thriving business community,” she added.

Afroze, a Master of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies, at the University of Birmingham, is experienced in writing and editing for independent and online media, including being a freelance contributing writer at The New Arab. She is also a former project co-ordinator at the Islamic Human Rights Commission.
