New addition to Press Club Board
Television journalist George Hancorn, who joined ITV Central earlier this year, has been elected to the Board of Birmingham Press Club.
George (pictured) is chief organiser of the recently-established Young Journalists Network group, which is open to young and aspiring journalists and media and communications professionals, providing members with an important link with the region’s media industry through its association with the Press Club.
Llewela Bailey, Press Club chairman, in welcoming George to the Board, said: “His appointment will provide a useful link in helping the Club to engage more fully with next-generation journalists such as media students and those young journalists who have already embarked upon their careers.”
George, who is assisted by fellow ITV Central journalist Lewis Warner in the organisation of the Young Journalists Network, moved to the Midlands from the West Country five years ago. Before joining ITV, he spent three years at Local TV, enjoying roles as network content producer and reporter and senior entertainment producer and presenter. George has also worked for Good Morning Britain, JPI Media titles, Simple Politics and local radio.
He said: “I’m delighted to join the Board of the oldest press club in the world! There’s some really exciting talent in this wonderful city and I can’t wait to get started in this new role.”
The Network group’s monthly/bi-monthly events – “all very casual” - offer the opportunity for like-minded people who were carving their careers in the media industry to meet together, to discuss sector issues and how best to embrace new media.
