Party Time with Jasper

Comedian Jasper Carrott (pictured) will be celebrating his 80th birthday this year – with a special fund-raising lunch in aid of The Journalists’ Charity, of which he is a Life Vice-President.

“Jasper at 80 – what a milestone,” said Derek Inman, who is chairman of the charity’s Midlands District. “He is a true legend, one of the funniest comics the region has ever produced and it is a real honour that he has chosen to celebrate this special occasion with us.”

The lunch is on Friday, 2 May at Edgbaston Cricket Club. Tickets cost £125 each and include a three-course meal, table wines, reception drinks – and a lot of fun!

Born Robert Norman Davis in Acocks Green, Jasper acquired his nickname, aged nine, and then, when he was 17, the aspiring entertainer added Carrott to complete his stage name.

“If I am still alive by May 2nd, it will be my pleasure to entertain many close friends from the world of journalism and entertainment,” said Jasper, who is also an Honorary Life Member of Birmingham Press Club. “Nothing is planned - so nothing can go wrong! I am so looking forward to it I have bought a new bib and a pair of socks.”
