Jonathan Gibson

BBC Birmingham journalist Jonathan Gibson was “highly commended” in the Headlinemoney Awards, just missing out to The Yorkshire Post’s Greg Wright for the accolade of Local/Regional Journalist of the Year.

Jonathan’s undercover investigation into the illegal trade in red diesel, which focussed on a Birmingham fuel supplier, was praised for “hard hitting local journalism” which went national.

The Awards are held to celebrate the best in journalism, editorial excellence and top-flight communications from around the world of financial services media.

Jonathan (pictured), a double-winner at the Birmingham Press Club-organised Midlands Media Awards, won the President’s Award in 2018 in recognition of his outstanding portfolio of investigative journalism reporting.

He was also crowned Journalist of the Year at the 2019 RTS Midlands Awards and Local Journalist of the Year at the 2020 British Journalism Awards.
