Reminding audiences the importance of journalism

Owen Meredith : NMA Chief Executive

This year’s “Journalism Matters” Week, the annual News Media Association campaign to highlight the importance of trusted journalism, will take place from 31 October to 6 November.

Last year, hundreds of titles took part in the campaign, which was launched with an article by Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries, who called on the public to back “our world-renowned news industry” bu buying newspapers or going on news media websites.

NMA chief executive Owen Meredith (pictured) said: "Journalism Matters is a unique opportunity for the industry to come together to remind all our audiences and stakeholders why journalism is so important in our society today.

"I encourage titles across the industry to start making plans for the week so the annual campaign is even bigger and better than it has been before."

Further details about this year's Journalism Matters will be announced in due course and the NMA will be making articles, logos, new research findings, industry stats and ideas on how to take part available for members to use during the week.

The Making a Difference showcase will highlight the power of local and national news brands to campaign for positive change in the communities they serve. The annual award sees members of the public vote online for their favourite campaign from the past year.
