Rugby club runs amok

Rugby club Birmingham Moseley is stripping off with the launch of a special “bloopers” book.

Edited by former Birmingham Post business editor John Duckers, it is titled Rugby Cheek: Birmingham Moseley Bares All, and is a fun collection of anecdotes recording the amusing, outrageous, strange and idiotic, plus printable sexual shenanigans, that have happened in the life of Moseley/Birmingham Moseley down the years.

Things that took place in training, travelling to or from matches, during a warm-up or game, in the clubhouse afterwards, on tour, and recollections of people watching in the crowd.

In short, a wide eclectic mix.

In the spirit of The Art of Coarse Rugby by Michael Green, incidents range from underwater cycling to a former England captain taking out a telegraph pole while in charge of a 42ft bus.

All written in a manner which hopefully appeals to a wide-ranging sports audience rather than simply being a series of perplexing in-house jokes and jests.

To be formally launched on April 12 at the final home game of the season against Sale in National One, albeit already available direct from the club, the price is £10 for paperbacks and £16 for hardbacks.

All profits will be going towards the Moseley Players’ Association’s key project to mark the 150th anniversary of the club, the replacement of the old floodlights with new (and far more economical) LED versions.

It is hoped the book, a companion publication to Red & Black, a history of the club unveiled last season to celebrate the anniversary, will produce a substantial four figure sum towards the target of £28,000 to turn a new spotlight on the main pitch.

Available too from Amazon and in an ebook version.

Birmingham Moseley chairman and benefactor Dave Warren said: “It’s a very funny book which I am sure young and old will find entertaining.

“Young men in the prime of life have always enjoyed mischief and high jinks. This picks up on some of the naughty escapades they got up to down the years.”

Tour stunts take the reader on a world travel bonanza from the United States to Malta, Canada to the former Yugoslavia, Thailand to Torquay.
