Sue’s On Stage

It’s still Panto Season.

And Press Club member Sue Smith has been treading the boards for the second year in succession.

Sue (pictured), who was a Bromsgrove-based reporter with the Birmingham Evening Mail before joining the Express & Star was cast as a pirate in the Ombersley Dramatic Society’s performance of Treasure Island.

“I love boats and I love sailing but I never thought I would become a swashbuckling pirate. So who needs Johnny Depp!” said Sue, who also took part in last year’s production of Sleeping Beauty.

The pantomime was held at Hartlebury Parish Hall with numerous members of the audience joining in the fun as they dressed up as pirates themselves. Charities benefitting from the proceeds of the pantomime are The Stroke Association, Dementia UK and Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Part of Ombersley village life since 1958, the drama group has so far staged over 100 productions ranging from pantos, comedies and farces to thrillers. And it is always on the look out for new members. So if you are interested in treading the boards or want to help backstage with props, sound scenery or lighting then contact chairperson Lizzie Waterhouse on 07725 304624
