Journalism students Katie Green, Jack O’Connor, Isaac Seelochan and Ellie Danemann will soon be seeing their copy in print – thanks to a “people-powered news project” involving their university and Reach plc’s regional daily the Nottingham Post.

Together with its Nottinghamshire Live sister website, the Post is teaming up with Nottingham Trent University’s Centre for Broadcasting and Journalism and the Association for Journalism Education to launch “Ask Notts Live” – a project where readers will be invited to submit story suggestions via an online survey. The students will then write-up stories from ideas suggested by the readers.

“The students have a fantastic opportunity to work with professional journalists to hone their skills while finding out what the readers really want to know about,” said NTU senior lecturer in journalism Jonny Greatrex. “It will be fascinating to see where people’s ideas lead us.”

Via Twitter, Post editor Natalie Fahy commented: “So proud to unveil this project. Four students will be working alongside our journalists this summer to dig into issues you want to hear about.”

The project has been funded with a research bursary from the Association of Journalism Education
