Finding the talent of Tomorrow

Birmingham Press Club is backing an initiative which hopes to discover the scrip-writing stars of tomorrow.

The Press Club is joining a host of other supporters, including Birmingham Hippodrome, whose Patrick Studio will host “Enter, Stage, Write,” a scriptwriting gala that offers a platform for emerging talents to demonstrate their skills.

The gala is scheduled for 25-26 January of next year and for the first time will have a category – “Amplified” - exclusively dedicated to Black and Asian comedy writers.

“For writers who are passionate about plays and short scripts, this is a golden opportunity to stand out,” said Press Club chairman Llewela Bailey. “The bonus is that, after a judging process, extracts from the finest scripts will be brought to life by a professional team at the Patrick Studio.”

The gala will be a highlight of the StoryTown Festival, which is a celebration dedicated to exploring the innovation and artistry of writers in theatre production, broadcast, TV, film and technology.

Founded by Natalie Edward-Yesufu in 2017, “Enter, Stage, Write” goes beyond a competition – it champions regional inclusivity and enhanced reputation in the UK’s creative arts landscape.

Natalie (pictured) is an award-winning creative entrepreneur and has an international career of more than a decade in visual arts and motion pictures, having founded the Transition Stage Company, specialising in film and factual entertainment, also, with a development department finding writing from the stage and books to be adapted to TV and film.

She said: “In light of AI advancements, “Enter, Stage, Write” is a positive step forward in recognising the vital role of writers and the important part they play in shaping today’s society.”

For the competition winner there will be a £1,000 prize, a year of support, and networking opportunities with theatre companies, television and film professionals.
