Spotlight on Fionnuala & Rachael at networking night

Our next networking drinks-night has been arranged.

The event, for members and their guests, will be held at the Edgbaston Stadium (B5 7QU) on Thursday, 25th November from 5 pm until 7 o’clock.

During the evening, we will be hearing from journalist Fionnuala Bourke, who in September of this year took over as editor of Birmingham World (birminghamworld.uk), a new city news website. Previously, Fionnuala (pictured) was commercial audience editor for Reach plc in the Midlands, Cheshire & Lincolnshire.

She’ll be giving us an update on how the public have re-acted to Birmingham World’s promise to be a “fresh voice” for its patch.

Rachael Taplin (pictured), chief executive of Media Matchmaker (mediamatchmaker.co.uk) will also be discussing how her company connects entrepreneurs and organisations to the UK media and journalists who are looking for help with stories, articles and expert comments.

Media Matchmaker, a free resource for journalists which celebrates its tenth anniversary next year, was created to simplify the time-consuming task of news gathering. When a story breaks, journalists want to speak with the most relevant people in that industry immediately. Likewise, industry experts want to have the ability to provide the media with their expert opinions.

So just how successful has the resource proved to be in what is now a rapidly-changing media sector?
